Ad-Hoc mode is a wireless LAN client mode that operates an independent, peer-to-peer configuration with other Ad-Hoc clients. The alternative and opposite mode to Ad-Hoc mode is Infrastructure Mode, which requires an 802.11 access point.
Ad-Hoc mode is also known as Independent Basic Service Set mode - IBSS or I-BSS.
