The BSS is the area of coverage of a Wi-Fi wireless access point. An ESS comprises two or more BSS, connected via a Distribution System (DS).
AP “Root mode” is used when an AP connects to a wired network.
When in Root mode, access points connected to the same wired network* can communicate with each other, to locate other wireless clients and allow the forwarding of frames data frames.
In this configuration, the access points may also support roaming.
