Fragmentation in a WiFi WLAN is a technique employed in wireless LANs to break larger network packets into smaller units, for transmission over the wireless network. Fragmentation can reduce both the probabilty and the adverse effects of wireless packet corruption, and thereby improve overall wireless network performance. The 802.11 fragmentation threshold must be set correctly by the wireless LAN administrator.
