UMA (Unlicensed Mobile Access (UMA) allows voice calls to be made and received via WiFi when a UMA-capable handset is operating with a WiFi network in the enterprise of at home. UMA uses VoIP, IPSec, UMA Network Controller (UNC) and potentially IMS (IP Multimedia System) where Voice Call Continuiy (VCC) is required during vertical roaming handoff between the unlicensed WiFi network and the mobile cellular network (such as GSM, UMTS or CDMA).
UMA is one step towards the goal of Fixed Mobile Convergence (FMC).
